Liam's Fall Portraits {Bergen County Children's Photographer}

There’s something magical about Autumn, isn’t there? The leaves are ablaze with color, and begin softly, slowly falling toward the ground. The smell of cinnamon scented pine cones as you step into the grocery store. The availability of almost everything under the sun in "pumpkin spice” scent or flavor. The feel of sweaters on your arms again. We are big fans of Fall! And, it seems, so are our clients. Just look at Liam’s Fall portraits!

Although we do shoot portraits in other seasons (and in studio), Fall is definitely our busiest time. It’s not too hot, the scenery is gorgeous, and the kids’ pictures will be recent, when placed on the family Holiday card.

Autumn also offers us the unique opportunity of adding more “play” time into our shoots - we can toss leaves, throw them at the kids, get motion shots, run around and play hide and seek, and generally make the shoot more enjoyable, ultimately resulting in a casual, fun look for portrait sessions.

These photos of Liam were snapped during a game of “who can throw leaves the highest” and we just love all of the laughter and smiles captured.

Fairy Tale on the Farm {Millstone Township Children's Photographer}

In case you couldn't tell, we have a blogging backlog and a half. As a result, we are posting some of our newer stuff as well as revisiting some older shoots. This shoot, in particular, is older. I believe this was two years ago to this very weekend.

NJ Children's Photographer

This wasn't our first time shooting Charlotte & Stella, but it was our first time styling them and having the run of the location. The girls' mom wanted to shoot on her Uncle's farm in Millstone Township, NJ, and we couldn't have been more excited! Pretty dresses? Gorgeous girls? Sweet, cuddly farm animals AND  a host of corgis to boot? We are in!

I ended up buying these dresses during an End of Summer sale on Zulily. They were just enough for the girls to run around on the farm without making them uncomfortable and hot. The crowns were purchased from  Love Crush and were a big hit with the girls.

As you can see, the weather in Millstone Township that day was a little cloudy. It didn't give us quite the sun glow we imagined for the shoot, but it did provide soft, diffused light, so that we didn't need to mess around with reflectors and/or worry about direct sunlight casting shadows on the girls' faces.

One of the things we love the most about what we capture are the small details of our clients' faces. You can see the dusting of freckles over Charlotte's cheeks, and Stella's gorgeous natural Summer highlights here.

The motion in these dresses really added a touch of magic to this particular shoot.

If you are interested in a more styled shoot for your child, please don't hesitate to reach out. We truly enjoy working with parents to come up with a look that captures exactly who your child is at this point in their lives, because as we all know: childhood doesn't last forever.

Wesley's 2nd Birthday Milestone Session {Jersey City Family Photographer}

We first met Wesley last August when he was turning just one year old. His parents were living in Jersey City and wanted to do an indoor / outdoor shoot to commemorate their time in Jersey City as well as their apartment, before they moved. We loved every second of that shoot and were quite sad when we learned they were moving, as one of the things we truly enjoy the most is getting to watch our clients' families grow. So when they reached out to us this year, we were ecstatic. They were coming back to Jersey City for a small visit and asked us to shoot their family session.

We ended up scheduling their session on what would go down on record as one of the hottest weeks of the year - but you'd never know it from how great their session turned out! We decide to meet at the Newport Green Park - a park we've never been to before - and do their shoot there. Unfortunately, there were some complications with the park opening on time, and we spent a bit of time walking around the park, waiting to be let in.

As photographers, sometimes it can be slightly nerve-wracking to not have things go exactly as you want - weather, light, posing, kids, etc - but we are starting to roll with the punches and think on our feet a little better these days. Since we couldn't get into the Green straight away, we did some walking and talking - we got to catch up on Wesley's life a little bit. We learned that he is completely enamored with all things Construction related right now. He knows all of the trucks and can name them pretty quickly. So, imagine how excited he was when we walked right into the construction site right next to the park, and took photos with a giant, orange excavator (with permission).

We spent a fair amount of time here exploring and checking out the construction site, while still waiting for the Green to open. Eventually, we noticed a cute coffee shop - bwe kafe - right across the street, and decided to duck in for some iced coffee, water, and air conditioning. We are super glad we did, too, because we got some of our favorite shots from this session.

After a little cool down, we were back in the Green, and enjoying plenty of gorgeous shooting locations!

Wesley, you are truly one of a kind. It's been such a pleasure to watch you & your family grow together. Wishing you a very special, happy 2nd Birthday!

Etta's Six Month Milestone Session {Bayonne, NJ Family Photographer}

Last weekend we had the absolute pleasure to shoot Miss Etta's 6 month milestone + family photography session. We had originally scheduled this shoot for a week earlier, but due to all of the rain we've had in Northern NJ, we rescheduled for this past Saturday.

During the Summer months when the days are much longer and the light is much harsher, we usually prefer to shoot in the early AM. Fortunately, for us, Etta seems to be a morning person! So we all met nice and early at the Stephen R. Gregg Park in Bayonne. Etta and her family are new to Bayonne, so they got to see a little more of the park and all of its beautiful locations.

Mama told us that she wanted simple, soft look for her photos, and we couldn't agree more - it's the perfect look for an end of Summer / Early Autumn feel. She did a wonderful job color coordinating everyone, and ensuring that Etta stood out. She brought two dresses for Etta and the cutest little gold sparkle jelly sandals you ever did see!

Is it any wonder that we are a tiny bit over the moon with this session? Just look at this gorgeous family!

Elliott Turns One! {Cranford NJ Baby Photographer}

Elliott's parents, Elizabeth and Victor, warned us that he was a real ladies' man. They said he was a total flirt. It was hard to believe any one year old could have game that strong until he got in front of our cameras.

He's not yet walking (but oh, so close) but Mom told us he loves to pull up on things and do big stands. And, she was not kidding! Thank goodness for us keeping this crate on hand where ever we go, because he had a blast with it!

Seriously! If there was a "Baby of the Month" calendar, I am pretty sure Elliott would win for September! I just love how the blue in his plaid shirt brings out his gorgeous eyes.

I love that you can sense how small he still is in this photo. The way he's grasping onto Mom & Dad's fingers so tightly - taking those tentative baby steps. It won't be long before he's walking and running around. We're so glad they have these precious photos to remind them of this special time in all of their lives.

Elliott also brought along one of his favorite friends to celebrate his birthday - The one and only Pooh Bear.   We were fortunate to get to shoot this session on a gorgeously breezy day. The sun going down behind Elliott makes this photo whimsical and timeless.

I don't think we could've asked for an easier first birthday photo shoot. Elliott and his parents were an absolute dream to photograph and we cannot wait to keep making magic as he grows up.
